A downloadable Demo Disc for Windows

Roused by the crackle of static, a lingering sense of dread crawls across the floor. You sit alone in your room. A dimly lit memory repeats in your head. 17 demos too horrible to describe keep you from your bed. Each one is a personally crafted nightmare. You've tried to tell others, no one understands. A CRT you don't remember owning flashes to life. Frozen in place you look upon the flickering screen to spy a dismal, bloodied scene. A cracked and faded jewel case sits close beside. A pale grey plastic box sits in front, emitting a low whirring noise. Will you take to the controller or let yourself be taken over?

Games:

Note:

The "Demo Disc" is not a physical disc (as amazing as that would be) as we don't have the time or resources to organise the can of worms that is monetization and physical production. We would need some sort of publisher to handle the money split and production if we were to sell a physical copy. There's also been some confusion over this, these games are all built on modern engines to evoke the feeling and aesthetic of late 90s games, the disk would not be able to run on any sort of hardware from the time. The demo disc is a free downloadable exe for Windows only. Supporting other operating systems would likely double or triple the work it took to organise the disc.

Something hilarious to watch while you're stuck at home

If this game runs into wine(Windows emulator) of linux operating system, I'll record something. But first I shall congratulations about that work, this one seemingly awesome. And hard to choose and compile many good 90's scenes and atmosphere in one game only. Well, I'm downloading right now, if it runs emulated properly, I return back here and drop post about my impressions and explore a bit this 90's thriller scenario. I wish for you conquest much more successful becoming a indie classic like others passed out by here. Have a good journey for you entrepreuneurship and never forget to do news about updates if need would be . We'll be lurking at this masterpiece intend over. I wish for you worthy success. I shall come back with a video demo if I could. <3

Here are my playthroughs of each game from the Haunted PS1 Demo Disk (I havent found the secret game yet sadly).

I enjoyed these a lot, I hope you'll do one of these next year as well.

Every time I launch the game it crashes. Does anybody have any tips to fix this?

This is the out put

Hi there! I love this game and it's style, and i was wondering if I could do some texture or title screen artwork for the demo games. Greatest salutations, -Superevan6

downloading the press kit erases the games...

Neko Yume is on hell of a- well game i guess.

Its an experience!

Hey, nice demo disk, sadly that isn't physical...

I'm also making Sega Genesis Haunted Demo Cart!

You won't find another game like this!

Fatum Betula was a very unique game! Looking forward to the full thing!

Downloading now, this sounds like an amazing idea and concept!

Will you be holding a regular ganejam for more haunted ps1disks? Because that would be awesome!!

(1 edit)

After playing 5 out of the 17 games (as of writing)

and having playtested Effigy before, I can safely say that this has been a good time sink and would recommend it to anyone looking to get their horror fix. Here's part one of my video series.

I still have all the old disks too. There are tons of them!

(1 edit) (+4)(-1)

What a great collection! You should definitely try this for yourself, but if you're curious what it looks like recorded on VHS, I've got you covered (spoiler: it looks great).

(+1)(-1)

VERY DOPE collection of games so far. I've played 2 games so far. I was stuck in Fatum Batula, but filth breed was SCARY!!!

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

Hey guys, if you speak spanish and want to listen to a discussion podcast about Effigy, watch our video:

(+1)

I played the Ramen game! It was a lot of fun as it was a very creative game. You can see my reaction here!

(1 edit)

Next year -- and I hope there is one next year! -- I'd like the games to all have controller support, so that I can play with a real ps1 controller.

As for other operating system support... perhaps just test to make sure the games run under WINE? Unity games usually do...

(+1)

This is a really cool idea and I'm glad you made this. I checked out Ode to the Moon which you can see here and I definitely plan on playing the other games. Great game and I'm looking forward to what the other games are like! Thank you!

(1 edit) (+1)

great concept but now due to the aestetic it's making me want to make it into a eboot and run via adrenaline on my vita which I know is impossible ><; excellent work on these games.

(1 edit)

Welcome back Spectators and Development team,

I had to make a 3 scary games video for the demo disk.  This is the first of multiple as all the games look EPIC.

Thank you so much for showing us your creation, I had an absolute blast playing the three games in this video.  Cant wait to make more episodes covering the work.

Would 7zip make the archive any smaller ?  It can sometimes make a big difference and give a smaller download size for the end-user. Zip files usually have the worst compression. Use 7zip or Peazip with 7zip settings on ultra compression. You can get even smaller compression if you add your own compression commands before starting.

This is a quote from a friend who compresses archives using 7zip with very good size results:

"The parameters I generally use are -mx -myx -ms=15g -mqs=on -mmt=8 -md=1024m -mfb=273 which in GUI terms is LZMA2 Ultra preset with 1024 MB dictionary size, 273 word size, 15 GB solid block size, and 8 threads.
The qs (sorting by type) and yx (analysis of all files) parameters aren't available in the GUI but can be added manually.

For this game I used 512MB dictionary since I was doing other things in parallel, and the difference would be only around 100MB at most.
I adjust it depending on how long I want it to run, since I usually do it in the background while working."

You don't need to go that far ,probably a basic 7zip archive on ultra settings would be much smaller.

(+1)(-2)

I took a quick look at the 5 games using the proper 4:3 aspect ratio. None of this widescreen crap in the 90s!

(5 edits) (+2)

Is there any chance for a controller support it would add more feels like you are playing on PSX with a dualshock controller

The only downside is that it makes me want to play a full game especially Until Biglight

🎀 IN SOMNIO & SAUNA 2000 | Haunted PS1 Demo Disc Full Gameplay

Is it Possible to learn this power?

Fellas, I must know. How did you achieve these Ps1-like graphics!?

(+6)

You NEEEEEED to get this published by Limited Run! I can't believe I'm reading "we don't have the time or resources to organise the can of worms that is monetization and physical production. We would need some sort of publisher to handle the money split and production if we were to sell a physical copy" -- this is a no-brainer. LimitedRunGames.com PLEASE

I really like this style  , sadly if i Start heartworm from the launcher the launcher didnt close by there self , ingame ( heartworm ) you can hear the launcher background music :S maybe there will be a bugfix?

The audio in the launcher should automatically mute when you are active on a different window. Were you tabbed into the Heartworm window?

direct from the launcher it doesnt mute  :S

(1 edit)

TBH, I'm seeing coverage of this demo disk EVERYWHERE! If you guys went to some kind of publisher and pitched this, showing them the numbers I bet you could get some kind of monthly subscription thing going shipping physical discs. I would definitely subscribe if it existed

(+4)

Will there be a Steam release? This collection is a gem, I would love to have it there with a justified price tag

(+1)

same !

(+1)

What an awesome collection of demos! Looking forward to future demo disks you guys put together.

(+2)

Cool idea making a "Demo Disk" of a  bunch of indie games.

(+2)

Downloading this I was expecting a loose .zip of games. The front end of this is amazing and the games suck you in!

(+1)

I love the idea, it has solid content, definitely brought back memories of old CDROMs full of demos from late 90s-early 2000s. Played Dead Heat, Sauna2000, Snowy Castle, Filthbreed and In Somnia so far, and they're all good in their own way. I'm also surprised that some of them are more complicated and feel like actual demos of work-in-progress. Great job, can't wait for the full release ;)

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi! i want to ask you how did you make that demo graphics? that main menu looks so good that seems ripped off from a 90's demo.

Also great job, i've been enjoy the demo so far. i really hope that you guys do more demos (maybe with other themes instead horror, like sports, action, etc...)

I think this is a good idea to promote indie games, even if they aren't ps1 horror aesthethic related. Imagine a monthly demo disc with some indie demos. it would be amazing.

Keep it up!!!

(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it! The menu was put together in unity using pre-rendered 3D animations/objects that were constructed in Blender.
